The Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight title, originally called the Eastern Heavyweight title, was introduced to wrestling fans in North Carolina, South Carolina, and Virginia, in 1970. In October 1973, the name was changed to Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight title and a new belt was presented to the reigning champion, Jerry Brisco.
